Dragon hunting

Dragon hunting
"Dragons in the day time,
Fires at night
I bow to the Lord of the Flies
For these marvels of flight"

This weekend, we drove out to Lakeland Park in Canton, IL. But really, it could have been anywhere there was water, greenery, blue skies and huge puffy clouds to provide sunscreen.

There were many wonderful sights:

Lotus Corniculatus
Daucus
A field of Daucus
Canadians in a field of Daucus

But, ultimately what always captures me is flight. Especially dragons in flight. And although, they capture me, capturing them – on digital media, using a smartphone camera – has been next to impossible, as the next few images amply illustrate:

With all the light and the wind swaying the grasses and the incredible gossamer nature of a dragonfly’s wings, I just couldn’t get the camera to focus.

Until, after a lot of patience, standing in a spot, letting the dragonflies flit around and find a spot, I was able to focus on one, and move back and forth till she came into clear focus! I was exultant, and… just as I clicked on the button to take the picture, it took flight! I realized I had either captured magic, or nothing.

Luckily, it wasn’t nothing. I was happy. It was totally worth the wait for me.

Dragonflight!

    “… Magic, or nothing… It wasn’t nothing.”
    Magic, then.

And, perhaps, a teaching about the importance, and not, of focus.

Glad you are not entirely focused on work!
