Overview
I just started reading “Carbon: The Book of Life“, Paul Hawken’s latest offering. I’m capturing things that stood out to me – language, facts, concepts and squirrels! – in the various chapters. There are 15 chapters in all, so a short post for each chapter:
- Carbon
- Elements
- Firmament
- Cell Mates
- Eating Starlight
- Sugar Salad
- Bucky and Bing
- Green Beings
- Kindom
- Parlance
- Paper Eyes
- Primeval
- Dark Earth
- Untranslated World
- Conscious
Overall, the writing waxes poetic and is chock-full of tidbits of information and numbers and percentages, but I personally find it going in different directions as I try to follow Ariadne’s thread, or trace Hawken’s footsteps through the book. I am relatively new to Hawken’s works, having started with Drawdown and then Regeneration, both of which felt full of actions you could take to be part of the solution. This one, in contrast, feels more informative.
